here's aqua originality for your family, america!
For those who blinked and missed it - here is what triggered the ABC "originality" down below there (or really the original rip-off that it is, equal parts "The O.C." and... the DC!) And you could call this hence... the AQUA episode of "Smallville" - the single highest-rated episode that they ever did have - and ever will have! ;)
No - it isn't today that they will successfully duplicate and not just imitate!
Right, Kurt Busiek?
;)
Oh - please click each pic to get appropriate music - again!
You'll see - or hear it, actually - you'll love it! ;)
(And if that doesn't work - click on the next few aquagidgets then!)
18 Comments:
Little joke aimed at Busiek there is well-deserved, for he chose to cast Aquaman in a supporting cast role in his own book - and place in the headliner role the GOLDEN AGE VERSION of the title character (simply not the same character at all - but a move I'd still call ironic and just, in a way, nonetheless! Golden Age initiators should get primed and featured; however, if this is to make up for the unnecessary -and, thus, cheap- killing of one Neptune Perkins, he who effectively replaced the Golden Age Aquaman in continuity... Then the price was too high, I say!)
AQUAMAN'S "MERCY REEF"
(minus Alan Ritchson, the AQUAboy you see on the pic there... The role was re-cast TWICE since... Read on!)
A MIDSEASON REPLACEMENT - MAYBE!
(And with the track record and recent history of new networks' line-ups, there is little doubt that there will be an URGENT NEED for MORE THAN JUST ONE mid-season replacement!)
Upfronts Announcement: The CW's Schedule for 2006-2007 Season
Combo of the best from UPN & The WB, plus a couple new series; Also, could Aquaman still go forward?
by Brian Zoromski
May 18, 2006 - This is a big week for television, as all five major networks announce their fall lineups at the annual Upfronts. Designed to promote the shows to advertisers, the Upfronts give us the final decision on what shows are returning, which have been cancelled and what new series have been picked up for the fall. IGN will be attending several of the Upfronts this year, so check back in the next few days for more detailed reports on what guests showed up and our initial reaction to the clips from the new series that were shown. In the meantime, we'll keep you up to date as each network takes their turn announcing their lineup.
Fourth to make their announcements this year is The CW -- the network that will be replacing both UPN and The WB in the fall, as a partnership between CBS (the "C") and Warner Brothers (the "W"). Past announcements this week include NBC, ABC and CBS. Overall, The CW's lineup is a combination of the highest rated and most critically well received series from both networks, with only two new series beginning in September and one new midseason replacement officially in the works. The best combination night looks to be Tuesday, with Gilmore Girls (formerly of The WB) followed by Veronica Mars (formerly of UPN).
Next week we'll have a look at the press conference given today by Dawn Ostroff, President of Entertainment for CW, but one interesting mention she made worth noting was that "Aquaman is still a midseason contender," in response to a question about the Mercy Reef project focusing on the DC Comics character, which was believed to be dead when it wasn't part of the CW's initial choices for new series. Reef was not mentioned during the official Upfronts event, so its prospects seem doubtful, but apparently there is still a possibility for it to happen.
As of its September debut, the full six-night schedule for The CW is as follows (descriptions for new series provided by the network):
SUNDAY
* 7:00 E/P Everybody Hates Chris (returning; was on UPN)
* 7:30 E/P All of Us (returning; was on UPN)
* 8:00 E/P Girlfriends (returning; was on UPN)
* 8:30 E/P The Game (new): Being the wife or girlfriend of a pro-football player might sound like a glamorous and stress-free existence, but Melanie Barnett is about to discover the truth. Melanie's boyfriend, Derwin, is the new third-string wide receiver for the San Diego Sabers. While Derwin worries about the plays on the field, Melanie learns about the power plays that NFL wives use to get their men the best agents, managers, endorsements, merchandising deals and even the "in" charity. As she deals with egos, groupies and image consultants, Melanie is finding out how The Game is played among the women behind the athletes. The Game stars Aldis Hodge as Derwin, Coby Bell as Jason, Tia Mowry as Melanie, Hosea Chanchez as Malik, and Wendy Raquel Robinson as Tasha. The Game is from Happy Camper productions and Grammnet Productions in association with CBS Paramount Network Television with executive producers Kelsey Grammer (Frasier, Girlfriends, Medium, and the least: BEAST IN "X-MEN" MOVIES), Mara Brock-Akil (Girlfriends, Moesha, The Jamie Foxx Show) and Steve "not Tony" Stark (Medium, The In-Laws).

Those are their real names, but as they struggle to blend into a new life in Bridgewater, Iowa, they are all using secret identities. This family is on the run, hiding from the legal system that unjustly accused Paul Radar of a terrible and violent crime. Adding to the danger, the real killer is now threatening the lives of the Rader children. As Paul works to protect his loved ones and uncover the evidence that will clear him, he lives with the daily fear that someone will accidentally reveal the family's dark secret in Runaway, The CW's new one-hour drama. Runaway stars Donnie Wahlberg as Paul Rader, Leslie Hope as Lily Rader, Dustin Milligan as Henry Rader, Sarah Ramos as Hannah Rader, Nathan Gamble as Tommy Rader, Susan Floyd as Gina Bennett, Karen LeBlanc as Angela Huntley. Runaway is from Sony Pictures Television, Darren Star Productions and Golly Inc. with executive producers Darren Star (Sex and the City, Melrose Place, Beverly Hills, 90210) and Ed Zuckerman (Law & Order), creator/co-executive producer Chad Hodge and co-executive producer Susie Fitzgerald.

MID-SEASON (unscheduled)
The CW has one show in the pipeline as a mid-season replacement, whose launch date is as yet undetermined:
* Hidden Palms (new): Johnny Miller (Taylor Handley) was a happy, well-adjusted 15-year-old with good grades and a roomful of sports trophies until the terrible night a year ago that his father committed suicide. Now, Johnny lives in the surreal, sun-drenched city of Palm Springs with his mother and her new husband. On the outside, Palm Springs is a shimmering paradise of resorts, swimming pools, golf courses and country clubs. But as Johnny learns the secrets that lie just beneath the surface of this seemingly typical neighborhood, he and his family are forced to ask the question: how well do you really know the people who live right next door? Also starring are Michael Cassidy as Cliff Wiatt, Amber Heard as Greta, Sharon Lawrence as Tess Wiatt, D.W. Moffet as Bob Hardy, Gail O'Grady as Karen Hardy, Ellary Porterfield as Liza Witter, and Cheryl White as Helen Witter. It isn't about cartoons at all, as a matter of fact!
TV Online: Battlestar Galactica Webseries Announced
Upfronts: NBC announces several new online tie-ins, including a BSG spin-off and a Heroes animated comic.
(It's all online, folks:
* Late Night with Conan O'Brien: O'Brien's site has a new exclusive online animated series called "Pale Force," based on the concept of the less than tan O'Brien becoming a superhero thanks to the influence of his idol Pale Man.
* Passions: In addition to webisodes directly connected to the popular soap, NBC will also begin an online only spin-off series called The Cove which will focus on existing and new characters. There will be two new five-minute webisodes a week offered.
NBC also promised a noteworthy online tie-in for every one of their new series debuting in the fall, including:
* Heroes: This new drama tells the story of people suddenly discovering they have superpowers. An animated digital comic book will be created by acclaimed comic book artist Tim Sale (Batman: The Dark Halloween / Spider-Man: Blue) which will tell stories set in the Heroes universe and expand upon the mythology and characters of the show.
"Webisodes" - wow, NBC: expanding American Slang!)
Upfronts Announcement: CBS's schedule for 2006-2007 Season
New series for Ray Liotta and James Woods to begin this fall.
(With stars like that and shows like Without A Trace headlining said schedule, I believe it safe to say that CBS will find itself with the mystery of "viewers missing - gone without a trace" in Nielsen's ratings!
Thankfully, they have the new CW to fall back on... for solace?)
Veronica Mars Renewed by CW
Low-rated shows such as Veronica Mars and One Tree Hill to continue on the CW; while Everwood does NOT last for ever and ever and that certain untitled show based upon Aquaman seems not to be going forward...?
Not if you believe the faithful at... aquamantv.com!
(EXECS didn't like; Word is however that the network wasn't too happy with most of their pilots when they were completed, and many high profile projects --most notably the Aquaman centered show Mercy Reef-- have not been picked up. It is expected that only two new series, the Donnie Wahlberg Fugitive-esque Runaway and the Girlfriends spin-off The Game will be on The CW's fall schedule.
Executives don't know squat too, as proven time and again - ironic that a Wahlberg boy winds up here... As long as it isn't Marky Mark...)
Upfronts Announcement: ABC's schedule for 2006-2007 Season
A new night for Grey's and several new comedies are among the changes to the schedule.
(Some of those pitches are... odd! Almost as much so as the series concepts themselves! Read for yourselves - TUESDAY 9:00 E/P Let's Rob… (new): For almost 20 years, Eugene Gurkin has dreamt of opening a bar, but his dead end job on the late, late janitorial shift won't even fund a bottle of premium booze. In the wake of a co-worker's death, he catches an episode of television. Call it divine intervention, call it a dumb idea, but whatever it is takes hold of Eugene and soon he recruits a group of misfits into his "gang" for a heist to finance their dreams. The target: Rock icon Mick Jagger's super-luxe Central Park West apartment. Working together, this band of affable, new-age Robin Hoods, who have never even shoplifted a candy bar, are soon casing the joint and prepping for their crime. What they don't know is that there's a much richer target for them… the chance to find hope, self-esteem and confidence within themselves. From Jon Beckerman and Rob Burnett, producers of Late Show with David Letterman and creators of Ed, comes a hilarious tale of haves and have nots. Donal Logue (Grounded for Life) stars. Mick Jagger appears in a cameo (he is not a series regular). WEDNESDAY 10:00 E/P The Nine (new): So much in life is beyond your control. You may go about your day like any other when suddenly a random moment, an accident, a blessing, even a stranger redirects your life forever. And on that day, it's up to you to decide if that moment will stop you in your tracks or lift you up to new heights. Nine people will face just such an unexpected twist when they are caught in a bank robbery gone wrong and endure a 52-hour hostage standoff that will leave more than one person dead. When all is said and done, these people will never be the same. They will share the common bond of what happens inside the bank and will be forever affected and intertwined because of it. From the creator of Without a Trace and an executive producer of The West Wing comes a dramatic character study that will keep audiences hooked with the mystery of what happened during the hostage standoff. Each episode will begin with a flashback to reveal another 10 minutes of the hostage crisis, uncovering why and how these nine strangers are still linked today. Tim Daly (Wings), Chi McBride (Boston Public) and Scott Wolf (Party of Five) star. THURSDAY * 8:00 E/P Big Day (new): If 24 married Father of the Bride, their child would be Big Day. Everything matters at a wedding, and the smallest imperfections can reverberate throughout the event as if lives actually hang in the balance. Choice of side salad? A trivial decision you would think, but for the mother of the bride, this might as well be the most critical decision of her life, and if you're the caterer, you'd better get it right. That's just the beginning -- the maid of honor accidentally drinks the best man's contacts after sleeping with him, and the father of the bride wants to stop the wedding. Things are about to get even more complicated for Danny and Alice, as their day turns into a season-long roller coaster where nothing goes according to plan. Over the course of an entire season, each episode will focus on one day - Danny and Alice's wedding day. The writers of What Women Want and 13 Going on 30 take a full season to dissect the biggest day in any family's life. Marla Sokoloff (Desperate Housewives), Josh Cooke (Four Kings) and Wendie Malick (Just Shoot Me) star.
* 8:30 E/P Notes from the Underbelly (new): Andrew and Lauren have just found out they're going to have a baby, and they're having a difficult time following rule number one - keeping it secret. Suddenly switching to decaf, becoming a teetotaler at cocktail parties, and going to the OBGYN are all difficult to keep from family and close friends. Well Andrew and Lauren are about to learn that, when the secret gets out, the politics of parenthood can be just as demanding as raising a child. Sometimes all that "help" from loving but intrusive parents and "advice" from well-meaning but competitive friends who are trying to show you what great parents they are is not exactly what you're looking for. Knowing what's best for the child could be the easiest part... maintaining your relationships with family and friends can be the real challenge. Director Barry Sonnenfeld and two producers of Two and a Half Men create a comic take on life's greatest adventure. As these friends watch their lives change to accommodate the little stranger, their relationships change in ways they never expected before they were expecting. Peter Cambor and Jennifer Westfeldt (Kissing Jessica Stein) star.
* 9:00 E/P Grey's Anatomy (returning)
* 10:00 E/P Six Degrees (new): Who will you touch? Who will touch you? They say that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person through a chain of six people, which means that no one is a stranger… for long. In this hour-long drama from the producers of Lost and Alias, six very different New Yorkers go about their lives without realizing the impact they're having on one another - yet. A mysterious web of coincidences will gradually draw these strangers closer, changing the course of their lives forever. Is it happenstance? Fate? Is there a greater force at work in our world, guiding us along and connecting our lives? This intriguing tale of intertwined destinies reminds us that romance, success, peace or forgiveness might be right around the corner, but they can also be lost in an instant. It's a story that underlines just how small the world really is, and how someone just five people away might be shaping our future right now. Jay Hernandez (Friday Night Lights), Erika Christensen (Flightplan), Bridget Moynahan (Sex and the City), Dorian Missick (Lucky Number Slevin), Hope Davis (About Schmidt) and Campbell Scott (The Secret Lives of Dentists) star. FRIDAY * 8:00 E/P Betty the Ugly (new): In the superficial world of high fashion, image is everything. Styles come and go, and the only constants are the wafer-thin beauties who wear them. How can an ordinary girl -- a slightly plump plain-Jane from Queens -- possibly fit in? If you took a moment to get to know Betty Suarez, you'd see how sweet, intelligent and hard-working she is. But few people do because, in the world of fashion, Betty is the oversized square peg in the petite round hole. When publishing mogul Bradford Meade hands the reigns of his fashion magazine, Mode, over to his son, Daniel, he specifically hires Betty as his son's new assistant - mostly because she's the only woman in NYC Daniel won't sleep with. Though this "player" is reluctant to accept her at first, Betty's indomitable spirit and bright ideas will eventually win him over. Neither of them really knows the ins and outs of the fashion world, but the two of them are a formidable team against the label-wearing sharks who will do anything to see them fail. Executive producers Salma Hayek and Silvio Horta, the creator of Urban Legend, bring the Latino television phenomenon to an English-speaking audience. America Ferrera (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants) and Eric Mabius (The L Word) are the Working Girl couple who tackle the colorful, cutthroat world of fashion head on.
* 9:00 E/P Men in Trees (new): Finding a good man in today's world isn't as difficult as some women think. You just have to watch out for the signs. You wouldn't drive with a blindfold on but, for some reason, women continue to date with one. Relationship coach Marin Frist knows what to look for, what to avoid and what will make her happy. As the many fans of her two bestselling books could tell you, we're all in charge of our own happiness. Marin's personal happiness includes the upcoming wedding to her "perfect man." But like many people full of advice, she fails to apply it to herself. On her way to a speaking engagement in Alaska, she learns that her fiancé has cheated on her... the wedding plans are instantly over. Slapped in the face with personal failure, a snowstorm then leaves her stuck in a small town full of the one thing she really doesn't need -- available men. Marin's friends and her publisher try to lend long-distance support, but the fact remains she's been living with her eyes closed for too long. Now that they're finally open, she sees the amazingly beautiful world surrounding her, and for the first time she'll have the chance to stop and breathe. Now if she could just get the raccoon out of her hotel room, this place might be perfect. From the head writer of Sex and the City and the director of the Academy Award®-winning Walk the Line comes a fun and sexy drama about finding love in the most unexpected places. Anne Heche (Nip/Tuck) stars.
* 10:00 E/P 20/20 (returning) AND AS A MID-SEASON REPLACEMENT (proof that there's hope for MERCY REEF too...) - Traveler (new): Jay, Tyler and Will are friends who have spent the last two years in grad school. They are about to depart on a summer trip when a simple prank to rollerblade through one of New York City's most famous museums makes Jay and Tyler prime suspects in a terrorist bombing that destroys the museum seconds later. Hopeful that Will can help clear up this misunderstanding, they learn he's been missing since the explosion and think he may be dead. They're unable to turn to authorities when they realize they can't prove Will even exists. In every photo from the past two years, he has managed to block his face. Who will believe them? Friends, family, lovers? The boys are pawns in a conspiracy that will take years to unravel, and the government may not have their best interests at heart. Their friendship will be tested like never before as they try to uncover the truth, while avoiding detection of not only the FBI, but everyone in America who has seen their faces on TV as suspects in the bombing. Director David Nutter, who has defined many series including The X-Files, Without a Trace and Supernatural, along with the writer of Eight Below and the Oscar®-winning producers of American Beauty combine The Fugitive with Enemy of the State in a taut, tense thriller of innocents on the run. Flashing back to the prior two years to illustrate the formation of this friendship and Will's insidious behavior, this action-packed drama taps into our paranoia with pure adrenaline-fueled entertainment. Matthew Bomer (Tru Calling) and Logan Marshall-Green (The O.C.) star.
WITH SUCH A LINE-UP... it is frightening to think of what ABC might have for the week-ends! Oh - it's Saturday Night College Football (new!) Whooopee-do.)
Upfronts Announcement: NBC's schedule for 2006-2007 Season

Eccentric LAPD detective Michael Raines' unique ability to have detailed conversations with deceased crime victims allows him to re-trace their lives leading up to their murder and helps him to solve their cases. Unfortunately, it also causes increasing friction with his boss, Captain Daniel Lewis (Matt Craven, From the Earth to the Moon), fellow officers Remy Boyer (Dov Davidoff, Third Watch) and Sally Lance (Linda Park, Star Trek: Enterprise), as well as civilian employee Carolyn (Nicole Sullivan, MADtv). Aided by Charlie (Luis Guzman, Boogie Nights), his ex-LAPD partner and conscience, Raines struggles to accept his peculiar gift -- or burden -- as it often forces him at times to confront his own past and internal demons.
MONDAY * 8:00 E/P Deal or No Deal (returning)
* 9:00 E/P Heroes (new): This epic drama chronicles the lives of ordinary people who discover they possess extraordinary abilities. The series focuses on the elaborate, triangulated game between the kidnappers, law enforcement, FBI, and the private negotiating team of the "perhaps" not-so-picture-perfect family. On a rainy New York morning, the picture perfect existence of Conrad Cain (Timothy Hutton, Kinsey), a self-made millionaire with a long list of enemies, and his well-to-do wife Ellie (Dana Delany, China Beach) is torn apart when their 15-year-old son Leopold (Will Denton Palindromes), a quirky kid whose innocence makes him the perfect target, is kidnapped on his way to school. The boy's bodyguard Virgil (Mykelti Williamson, Boomtown), the boy's first line of defense even after the kidnapping, is left to die. Desperate to find his son while keeping his skeletons hidden, Mr. Cain enlists the services of Knapp (Jeremy Sisto, Six Feet Under and Thirteen), a "professional" investigator who works outside the law's strict rulebook to retrieve kidnapping victims and guide families through the grueling process, and his able partner and right hand Turner (Carmen Ejogo, Lackawanna Blues). Operating opposite Knapp and his team is Special Agent Latimer King (Delroy Lindo, The Core), an experienced FBI agent who postpones his retirement due to a vested interest in this complicated case, and his colleague and antithesis Agent Andy Archer (Linus Roache, Batman Begins), whom only knows how to play by the rules.

Sorkin lays bare the backstage politics, romances and delicate balance between creative talent, on-air personalities and network executives in an instant text-messaging world. Prominent are Jordan McDeere (Amanda Peet, Syriana) a savvy new network entertainment chief who inherits a massive public relations disaster on the series -- even before she starts her first day -- and Matt Albie (Matthew Perry, Friends) and Danny Tripp (Bradley Whitford, The West Wing), a brilliant creative team that she wants to resurrect the program. Andy's incessantly supportive wife Jen (Amy Farrington, The New Adventures of Old Christine) isn't sold on this risky new venture, that is, until she notices a sudden boost in Andy's self-confidence. Andy's neighboring merchants -- Simon (Tony Hale, Arrested Development), Wally (Marshall Manesh, Will & Grace) and Jessica (Ion Overman, The L Word) join him in the dicey investigation. Whether chiding thugs for "renting instead of buying" or being pursued by Sri Lankan gangsters, Andy will prove to be a consummate problem-solver.
* The Singles Table (new): In this comedy, a group of witty and single strangers -- Ivan (John Cho, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle), Eli (Conor Dubin, Close to Home), Adam (Jarrad Paul, The Shaggy Dog) and Stephanie (Rhea Seehorn, Modern Men) - meet at a wedding and suddenly realize they have one thing in common, they are each a party of one stuck at a remote singles table. Because of their solo status and tenuous relationships with the bride and groom, they are all destined for Table 18, a far corner of the wedding reception. But through the course of the party, each emotionally vulnerable person questions his or her life's issues and vows to make it better. For richer or poorer, these five kindred spirits will grow to become good friends -- and, in some cases, they may become more than that.
WOW - Andy Richter gets another crack at a show of his own! Now I am convinced - AQUAMAN WILL BE ON THE AIR IN 2007! 2007; YEAR OF THE SEVEN SEAS! The level of the oceans will be rising steadily too, but that's another story...)

Trailer for TV show may hit silver screen.
(That didn't happen - but Aquaman trails Superman in another sense, sure - the Atlantean is not as well treated by other mediums as the Kryptonian (creep-doh-néant) is... hmm?

But, gee - tv.ign.com - get your site up to date or something!!!)

Things are much simpler for lame-o Namor... the sub-zero. I mean, the sub-mariner - of course.
No need to link to these... Here are the crappy "news"...
FIRST, THE FARCICAL RUMORS:
(DATING BACK TO AUGUST 2003)
Good Namor Hunting
The latest Sub-Mariner rumors.
by Stax
August 8, 2003 - According to The Matt Damon Column, BBC 1 Radio reported that the Oscar-winner is in the running to play the title role in Universal's big-screen version of The Sub-Mariner. The project is based on the Marvel Comics character and will be written and directed by David Self (Road to Perdition) for Marvel Studios and Misher Films (The Scorpion King).
As the MDC wisely points out, though, "Matt's previously stated that he wouldn't play a superhero or a comic book character, so this is definitely in the rumor file only."
Perhaps Damon's buddy Ben Affleck – a.k.a. Daredevil – talked him into it?
The Hollywood Reporter reminds us that "Sub-Mariner follows the adventures of Prince Namor, a half-man/half-amphibian creature from Atlantis. A troubled rebel with a short temper, he has helped the human race and fought against it when humankind polluted his underwater kingdom with waste."
Matt Damon is currently filming Brothers Grimm and will segue to The Bourne Supremacy. No word yet on when The Sub-Mariner will film.
Thanks to Ain't It Cool News for the heads-up.
("AIN'T IT COOL NEWS' should be renamed "IT AIN'T TRUE NEWS" - Stax!
Look into a new name for yourself as well, by the way... If Matt Damon would play anyone, it would be Aquaman. He is closer to that character. Ironically, his "Grimm Bro", Heath Ledger, was once cast by the fans as Aquaman... That was way before that joke turned reality Brokeback thing... Now, surely as a consequence of that, Ledger will be The Joker instead!)
NEXT NEWS - DATING FROM NOVEMBER 2005...
Sub-Mariner Needs a Director
Columbus ditches Namor.
by Stax
November 14, 2005 - Superhero Hype reports that, while doing press to promote his new film Rent, director Chris Columbus revealed that he "probably won't be" directing the big-screen version of Marvel Comics' The Sub-Mariner.
The Universal-based project was scripted by David Self (Road to Perdition). Marvel Studios will produce along with Misher Films.
According to the site, Columbus "doesn't know what he will do next, and he probably won't even think about it until after he's done promoting his new film."
No word yet on who might take Columbus' place as the helmer of Sub-Mariner.
CORRECTION: SUBBY NEEDS NOT A DIRECTOR... for there will not be any film!
This one has sank - and tanked!
Flee the ship!
We need not an adulterer anti-hero on the big screen...
And to think that Marvel had thought of a 2006 summer release for "namor"!
HA
"No more" is much more like it!
I hinted at Heath Ledger's punishment...
I shudder at the thought of what fate will bring one Mark Wahlberg too, with tomorrow's tidings...!!!
Okay, just kidding about the shudder thing!
;)
NO ONE- I repeat NO ONE - has it as bad as Aquaman does though...
Here they had, in Alan Ritchson, the first live action Aquaman - ever! They dump him to get another actor - a better actor one might presume... or hope!
What do they do once he's been casted?
(That guy named Coale...)
They ditch him too!
And they nominate Justin Hartley.
Now, who is Justin Hartley?
Mariette Hartley's prodigal son?
(Mommy of Good Morning Beantown with Hulk Bill Bixby - but also of lesbian pioneering -with Lynn Redgrave, in some obscure TV movie- fame! But I am merely speculating that she's his mommy... It is hard to compete with TV mommy Atlanna - portrayed by the dazzling Daniella Wolters - at any rate...!)
The fact is, and the problem also is that Justin Hartley is to play ANOTHER BLOND HERO... Green Arrow Oliver Queen... on Smallville!!!
Aquaman was deprived of two actors to portray him and only him - two faces to call his own - only to be forced to SHARE an actor with a nother Justice League member?!?
That sucks royally.
If Hartley is to be the Sea King - he shouldn't have to portray (Oliver) Queen... Do you catch my drift?
KryptonSite Exclusive: Justin Hartley Talks Aquaman & Green Arrow
As first announced in this week's TV Guide, Justin Hartley will be making an appearance in at least seven episodes of Smallville's sixth season playing the role of Oliver Queen, better known to comic book fans as Green Arrow.
Of course, fans on the Internet, particularly those who caught the Aquaman trailer on YouTube might recognize Hartley - he played the lead role of Arthur "AC" Curry in the Aquaman TV pilot from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators of Smallville. Sadly, the CW chose not to run with Aquaman and the show remains unaired. Chances of it ever becoming a full-fledged series are slim to none.
Justin made an appearance at the Comic-Con International in San Diego on July 22, and after his autograph signing, KryptonSite's Craig Byrne was fortunate enough to catch up with Justin for a Q and A session. The interview follows:
What was it like to film the Aquaman pilot last season?
You know, it was great. We did some tank work, and then we did some ocean work as well. We were actually in the reef and in the ocean swimming around. It was great. It was a lot of hard work. It was really physically taxing, but nothing I couldn't handle, and really beautiful and tranquil. It's really interesting, looking at an aquarium as opposed to being in their environment. It's a little freaky, but it's fun. I swam with dolphins. That was so great, man. That was so, so fun. I would recommend that to anybody. It was a good time, to work with all those guys. They're all professionals, like all the divers underwater and stuff, so, it's good.
Can you talk about some of the people you worked with on Aquaman?
I'm an actor, so for me, all the actors stand out. Lou Diamond Phillips stands out. Everybody knows he's a good actor, 'cause he's proven that. He's been in umpteen million films and stuff, and everyone knows he's good. But it's interesting, because there's a certain quality about his acting that comes through, I think. And it's a likability, an endearing quality about his acting that comes through. And it's really interesting, when you get to know him, you realize that that is him. It's him coming through. I mean, he is the nicest - maybe the single nicest man I've ever met in my life. And he's genuine. He's such a good, good person.
Ving Rhames stands out to me also, just because he's got great presence. He's a fun guy too, and he's got a lot of insight in the business.
Greg Beeman, I thought, did a great job. He's always moving the camera, and he's always trying to help you out, and one of the best directors I've worked with, I think. I really enjoyed him.
What was your reaction when you learned that the Aquaman pilot was not picked up as a series?
I would say that I was not disappointed, but I think that's lying, because I was really looking forward to doing it. I got over it pretty quickly, not because it didn't sting, but because of this business you deal with situations like that a lot, and if you take the time to feel sorry for yourself, then the people who are nipping at your heels are going to pass you, and end up getting all your other jobs. So you've got to work. You've got to get back to work, get another job. You don't have time to feel sorry for yourself. So there was a moment of "oh, man," just because it was so much hard work, and I really thought we - I still do think that it just could have been really great. It really could have been great. There were a lot of stories to be told, and Miles and Al worked so hard on it. We all worked so hard on it.
So it was disappointing in that sense, but then you move on and, what are you gonna do, you know what I mean?
You then went on to do a movie this summer, is that right?
I'm actually filming it right now. I'm doing Spring Breakdown with Rachel Dratch and Amy Pohler, Parker Posey, and Missy Pyle.

HA
Hilarious.
The word verification for that last one was "jlarc"
As in... the JLA has done only REAL CRAP for AQUAMAN over the years - hmm?
Mind you it is still better than Subby's primary link to a team named "Defenders" - or is it "Invaders"?
You may say "Avengers" - but everybody knows that the only true Avengers are EMMA PEEL and JOHN STEED! ;)
Now...
Speaking of fans on the Internet, particularly those who caught the Aquaman trailer on YouTube (that) might recognize Hartley - (since) he played the lead role of Arthur "AC" Curry in the Aquaman TV pilot from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar
Do the WB and CW staffs realize that on July 24, the pilot episode of AQUAMAN/MERCY REEF became one of the first shows offered by Warner Brothers on the iTunes Music Store, under the title Aquaman. It soon reached the #1 spot on the list for most downloaded TV Shows on the iTunes Music Store.
The CW wants to keep low-rated shows - and force Seventh Heaven to linger in agony through an 11th season of the same old stuff - instead of giving MERCY REEF a shot?
Are they scared of ABC's Falcon Beach?
Or of repeating themselves (since they had a South Beach too... on UPN! The CW is an amalgam/merger of the old WB and UPN - under CBS tutelage, as we've seen earlier, after all...)
Are they afraid of being too... Dawson's Creekish?!?
What is it - WHAT?!?
THEY HAVE TIO HAVE A BETTER EXPLANATION than just "not liking the pilot so much" to prefer to keep Veronica Mars (Veronica Mars!!!), One Tree Hill and 7thHeaven on and not find a spot for the promising and tantalizing (what potential - what a cast - what a premise) Mercy Reef...
From the aquamantv.com site:
Aquaman TV Pilot: Mercy Reef: The Cast
Justin Hartley
Arthur Curry ("A.C.")
Playing Arthur "A.C." Curry, aka Aquaman, is 28-year-old Justin Hartley, a familiar face to fans of the NBC soap Passions.
You can find a lot more information and pictures of Justin at Justin Hartley Online. We'll try and have a more complete bio up soon. Justin is married to his former Passions co-star Lindsay Hartley (nee Korman), and the two have a young daughter, Isabella Justice Hartley.
Ving Rhames
McCaffery
Award winning actor Ving Rhames has been cast in the role of McCaffery, a lighthouse keeper who also is A.C.'s mentor.
Rhames was born in 1959 in New York City, and is best known to movie audiences for his roles in Pulp Fiction and the Mission: Impossible movies. On TV he played the title role in te USA Network's Kojak remake, and took home some awards for his portrayal of Don King in a HBO miniseries.
One of his early roles was an episode of The Equalizer, and that automatically makes him cool in our book. He's also been seen in several episodes of ER, and dozens of movies.
Denise Quiñones
Lt. Rachel Torres
Denise Quiñones, who was recently seen in the Smallville episode "Vengeance" as Andrea, the "Avenging Angel," will be hanging out with another future superhero soon as she has been cast in the role of Rachel, a young fighter pilot who is a potential love interest for the A.C. character.
Some character breakdowns for "Rachel Starling" have surfaced on the Internet; these were written in November 2005 and are not reflective of the final version of the character. Rachel also has a new surname - Torres.
Quiñones was crowned Miss Universe in 2001 after being named Miss Puerto Rico the same year. Denise was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on September 9, 1980.
You can read more about Denise and see a whole lot more pictures at Denise-Quinones.com.
Lou Diamond Phillips
Tom Curry
Lou Diamond Phillips, who was last seen on The WB in the series finale of Jack & Bobby, will be playing A.C.'s father, Tom Curry, who we believe is an officer with the Coast Guard.
Phillips is known for a wide range of TV and movie work over the last 20 years. He was also a one-time Tony Award nominee. Major film credits include Young Guns, Courage Under Fire, La Bamba, and Stand and Deliver. He appeared in the SciFi Channel miniseries The Triangle, so he should be used to Bermuda Triangle weirdness by now.
Rick Peters
Brigman
Rick Peters has joined the cast in the role of Brigman, a man who is quite curious about what exactly is going on with the mysteries that have come from and disappeared to the Bermuda Triangle.
Peters is also familiar to the Millar/Gough DC Universe, as he appeared as one of two persuasive former salesmen in the first-season Smallville episode "Hug."
39-year-old Peters' other credits include episodes of Close to Home, CSI, CSI: Miami, and Veronica Mars.
Amber McDonald
Eva
Amber McDonald will be playing A.C.'s best friend, Eva, in the Aquaman pilot.
Some of the background of the character seems to have changed over the development of the series, but what we do know for sure is that Eva and A.C. have known each other for a while.
Amber was raised in Key West, Florida, and has been acting since she was very young, performing at her parents' theater, The Red Barn. She's a graduate of Boston University, where she received her BFA in acting. She also studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts.
McDonald performed on the New York stage in such shows as Love in the Age of Narcissism and No. 11 Blue and White.
Amber's previous television credits include As The Word Turns, Guiding Light, and a 2005 episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Film credits include Searching For Bobby D., You Tell Me, Lay Me Down, Hide and Seek, and Perfect Match.
(Special thanks to the "You Tell Me" movie information site for biographical information)
Daniella Wolters
Atlanna
Playing the role of A.C.'s Atlantean mother, Atlanna, in the soon-to-be-filmed pilot episode will be Daniella Wolters, sometimes credited as Daniella Deutscher.
Previous credits for Ms. Wolters include playing the lead role of Julie Connor on the NBC series Hang Time, and guest shots on 24 and Las Vegas. She was also at one time a model in Japan.
Graham Bentz
Young A.C.
Graham Bentz will be playing Young A.C. in flashback sequences. IMDb lists an episode of Judging Amy as one of his previous credits.
He was cast last year as a regular on the NBC/WB pilot Deal (also known as All In) which never aired.
He has also done several commercials and his voice has been used in Disney projects including the upcoming video Brother Bear 2.
Adrianne Palicki
Siren/Nadia
Playing a "siren" named Nadia in the Aquaman TV pilot will be Adrianne Palicki, who fans of Smallville might remember as proto-Supergirl "Kara" in a third season Smallville episode.
Recent credits for Adrianne include an appearance on Supernatural. She first got fan attention by being cast in the WB's Lost in Space: The Robinsons pilot, which never aired. Recently, she was also seen on UPN's South Beach.
More Cast Announcements Coming Soon.
Hmm... Justin's daughter's middlename is Justice.
And he gets to play not one but two members of the Justice League...
No mention of Mariette Hartley there though!
Maybe she'll be mentioned when the "more complete bio" comes on...!
This cast is BETTER than the silly Smallville cast...
Same basic formula, mixing established talent with new faces. BETTER AND IMPROVED HERE!
Adrianne Palicki's luck though must be on par with Aquaman's own, alas...
Her Lost In Space pilot gets canned and to STAY in the can... Her Aquaman pilot too, for the time being anyway... She got to play Supergirl, but only a "proto" fake one...
Hey - maybe she'll wind up as Dinah 'Black Canary' Lance to Justin's Oliver Queen, eh?
Ha.
Daniella Wolters is stunning, as hinted at before, and Amber McDonald is a Boston connection - so that's always good to have too!
;)
Oops... did I call the once (and maybe future? Who knows, with crazy Hollywood...) Aquaman... Mr. Coale?
*lol*
Will Toale is the name - and being vain must be the game!
He was canned - and I think the Hartley kid is more sympatico for the role of a hard-luck hero such as AQ...
Let Toale toil as Oliver Queen instead!
Yeah!
He'd look right at home, I'm sure, next to the OTHER Mr. Vain, the kid who plays Clark Kent on Smallville... now what's his name again?!?
*LOL*
Now... if that is not possible... Can the WB guys be deemed brainy enough to think up the following: since Mercy Reef is in limbo for now - why not bring back Alan Ritchson as A.C. on Smallville - and have him clock Justin Hartley AND that Clark Kent dude while he's in town, eh?
*LOL*
I am sure that in his frustrated/dehydrated state, he's bound to go for it...
;)
Back in November 2005 (just as Namor was ditched by his never-to-ve director on his never-to-be film project...)
Trade reports imply that the Smallville "Aqua" episode was not intended to be a template for the new series, so there may be some tweaks and changes from the initial interpretation. To further hammer home that this is a different project and not a Smallville spin-off, Ritchson was "not even a contender" for the series. "He did a wonderful job on the show, but this is going to be a different version of the 'Aquaman' legend," Executive Producer Alfred Gough said in today's Variety. The pilot "will be different than what you saw on Smallville. That was our out-of-town trial version."
The Florida Keys and the nearby Bermuda Triangle may be locations and settings that will come into play in an Aquaman series. Also, don't look for the show to necessarily be called Aquaman. "There's a mystery surrounding the disappearance of (Curry's) mother and the Bermuda Triangle," Gough told Variety, adding that other weird occurrences related to the Triangle will provide plotlines. It was also revealed that Arthur will live with his adopted father, an officer with the Coast Guard.
Here are some highlights from Edward Gross's interview with executive producer Alfred Gough.
On what will separate this Aquaman from the version of the character we saw on Smallville: "I think the character in that episode was a little further along in his development than we want to do on the series," Gough told CFQ.
On what makes the young version of Aquaman, "A.C.," markedly different from Smallville's Clark Kent: "I have to say that if Clark Kent is Luke Skywalker, then Arthur Curry has got to be Han Solo."
"Batman is perceived as cool, whereas characters like Aquaman and Superman are perceived as kind of lame goody two-shoes. Certainly five years ago Superman was perceived as a boy scout. It's a challenge, but it's fun because there lies the ability to surprise people with what you do," Gough says.
About A.C.'s powers: "He can breathe underwater and swim faster than humans and has super strength underwater," Gough tells CFQ. "He can operate on land, but we're playing with the fact that if he's exposed to water, his powers kick in on land. This is being done for a couple of reasons. One, we want to tell stories on land and not just spend entire episodes on the water. Two, this gives you the ability to expand his crime-fighting abilities on land as well. What's also good about Aquaman is that his Kryptonite is that if he doesn't get water, he dehydrates, gets sick and weakens, which is much easier than looking for a Kryptonite rock." Later in the interview, Gough says "What we're thinking is that his exposure to water on land gives him limited super strength. It's kind of like Popeye with spinach, which is the easiest analogy."
Gough reveals that there are many story opportunities for an Aquaman series. "The stories themselves will deal with stopping polluters, there will also be Bermuda Triangle stories, there will be stories involving the military, there will be stories on land. In the real world we just had bandits robbing cruise ships - that's a good Aquaman story," he says. "In some ways, I think you'll have a lot more story opportunities than we initially did on Smallville, because there are so many areas that we will be able to pull from."

Figures an Alfred would get it all wrong and upside down...
Clark Kent is not Luke Skywalker
Arthur Curry is Luke Skywalker!
Clark Kent is just E.T. in a hunky shell for the teeny-bopper crowd of today!
Capisce?
Now go clean up the Bat-toilet, Alfred...
THE WB - CW - WHATEVER YOU WANNA CALL THE BASTARDS - COMPLETELY MISSED THE BOAT!!!
They chose to cast someone "under contract already" as Tom Curry...
WHEN THEY COULD HAVE GOTTEN THE MAN FROM ATLANTIS HIMSELF!!!
An online interview with TV's original Man From Atlantis, Patrick Duffy, has its TV Guide interviewer making an Aquaman casting suggestion:
TVGuide.com: Me, I'd like to see the Man from Atlantis as Aquaman's dad on the Smallville spin-off.
Duffy: That would be a very nice wink-wink, nudge-nudge kind of thing. I'm open to all of it. I am of the age now where I'm not going to be the swashbuckling superhero, and that's perfectly fine.
Lou Diamond Phillips is an ok guy - but he's Richie Valens! Not The Man From Atlantis!
Actually...
Lou's also AGAGUK!
Is that the joke?
AQUAMAN , SON OF AGAGUK?
And father to Koryak... begotten from the womb of an Eskimo woman... sort of an North Pole version of the Tarzan lineage...?!?
AGAGUK being a classic Eskimo hero that Lou portrayed in a film, opposite Jennifer Tilly... "Shadow of the Wolf" was the title (not to be confused with that short-lived werewolf series Phillips was in a few years ago...) but AGAGUK is the lead character's name and original title - it was a French-Canadian book, initially!
YOU CHOSE AGAGUK OVER THE MAN FROM ATLANTIS?!?
YOU MAKE ME SICK, WB!
Yet more fodder to the myth or reality that AQUAMAN and LUKE SKYWALKER are sort of... cosmic twins?
All the way down to their casting calls...
The casting of Justin Hartley and his replacing Will Toale is featured in the March 17, 2006 issue of Entertainment Weekly, now hitting newsstands and arriving in subscriber mailboxes.
The article takes a look at other actors who have been signed for or appeared in pilots, only to be replaced in regular series, like Ray Romano in the NewsRadio pilot or Mark Hamill on the first episode of Eight is Enough in the role later taken by Grant Goodeve.
Did you know Hamill was replaced by Goodeve?!?
Good grief - I did not!
Eight Is Enough's loss - and Star Wars' gain!
I would be remiss if I did not marvel (...) at the fact that both the actress playing the Siren as Justin "Aquaman" himself come from... occult origins!
*Oooooooooo* - scary!
Adrianne appeared recently on the old WB - soon to be CW's very own Supernatural...
And Justin comes from the soap Passions - and anyone who's seen a bit of Passions knows what it contains!
I always refered to "Passions" - since it began in 1999 - by the bittersweet (as oxymoronic - but purposefully and with dual meaning) monicker of "Dark Shadows - Lite"...
For it features a character named "Tabitha" (played by veteran actress Juliet Mills) and that is the name of Samantha's daughter on BEWITCHED... The classic TV show, not the recent execrable movie, evidently. Everything else of this same nature on that show is taken very comically indeed... Hence...
Justin met his future wife, Lindsey Kormen, on the set of "Passions" though... fittingly enough.
Love Spell I tell you.
*lol*
Alfred Gough Talks Aquaman
WizardUniverse.com has posted an interview with executive producer Alfred Gough where he talks about the Aquaman pilot and promises that it will be seen by the masses at some point. Here's an excerpt:
"We’re working on a way to get the pilot out there. That’s sort of all I can say at the moment. Whether it’s some sort of addition on season six of “Smallville” or not—we’re really proud of the pilot. We’d love for the fans to get a chance to see it. The implication when a network doesn’t pick up a show is that the pilot sucks and that’s not the case. It’s not a perfect pilot by any stretch of the imagination. There are other reasons—which are a mystery to us—as to why The CW didn’t pick it up. I think it definitely puts Aquaman in a modern context and he’s not lame. It’s a shame because it would have been a really fun series."
